About the Position:
The Optical Engineer and Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the smooth execution of projects by facilitating coordination between the Value Competitiveness Engineering team and other Marelli departments (such as R&D Software, Testing, System Validation, Prototyping, Product Evaluation and Validation). This role also supports daily engineering activity to estimate and optimize the cost and design of the optical BOM of the Automotive Interior products (instrument clusters, central and passenger displays, head-up displays, etc.) analyzing customer and system specification, product optical contents (LED, illumination concept, optical finishing and treatment of parts, lens, films, TFT, cooling, optical bonding, etc.), assembly cycle (inclusive make/buy/resource) and suppliers’ proposals in cooperation with Special Initiative Program Manager and VA/VE Manager, Commodity and Purchasing, Engineering and Manufacturing Departments.
Your Responsibilities will be:
- To oversee and ensure the successful completion of a cost reduction initiative from beginning to closure with particular focus on Value Competitiveness Internal departments coordination, coordination and collaboration with other Marelli departments.
- Coordinate the comparative analysis of optical data sheets of current displays against alternative proposals and work with the vendor and team to minimize and manage any gap.
- Assessment of cost down areas of products’ optical BOMs, assess technical feasibility, definition of actions, effort estimations and timing necessary to implement the changes.
- Support in re-designing advanced optical systems to achieve BOM cost reduction.
- Assure proper and efficient technical redesign, design implementation, and validation to achieve internal and customer approval for the change.
- Cooperate with internal and external stakeholders for the implementation of cost down proposals.
- Cooperate with the development team to perform design reviews and technical assessments.
- Estimating components and process scraps.
- Cooperate with suppliers to identify and optimize product design, production tools and production process for cost reduction.
- Support and participate to Design to Cost and Value Competitiveness workshops to propose and estimate cost down proposals.
- Assure the projects’ cross fertilization from developed actions and consolidate knowledge in form of lesson learned.
- Support in designing and performing optical simulations.
- Support in performing optical measurements.
- Manage and release related product and project documentation.
What Qualifications you will bring:
EDUCATION (SCHOOL/SPECIALIZATION): Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering/Physics, or equivalent automotive lighting optical design experience.
LANGUAGES: English fluent, additional language is preferred.
EXPERIENCES
- Solid previous work experience (minimum 5 years) in optical design, experience with German OEMs and team leading experience is preferred.
- Deep knowledge of LED, display, optical parts and optical bonding, their specification and influence of the design, components, and production process selection.
- Proficiency in tools for optical analysis and design, such as optical modeling and simulation software.
- Good knowledge of OEM Norms for design verification and product validation, experience with German OEMs is preferred.
- Experience with optical measurement systems; automotive preferred.
Other skills that we would welcome:
- Knowledge of project management within Automotive industry
- Deep knowledge of display and optical illumination applications in automotive industry
- Deep knowledge of optical architecture and technologies (LED, OLED, LED driving, dimming, treatments, finishings, lens, etc).
- Knowledge of display production processes, display optics, display components and display production technologies related costs.
- Knowledge main display and display components Suppliers.
- High accountability (externally and internally).

- Good interpersonal, communication, and conflict management skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with others in a matrix management structure.
