About the Position:

 

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join the Value Competitiveness team, reporting directly to the Special Initiatives Lead, Electronic Systems.
 

This position is based at our office in Cluj-Napoca.
 

As the Mechanical Engineer (Value Competitiveness) at Marelli, you will be responsible to estimate and optimize the cost and design of the mechanical BOM of the products (instrument clusters, central and passenger displays, head-up displays, ect.) analyzing customer and system specification, product mechanical contents (incl. optical parts), assembly cycle (inclusive make/buy/resource) and suppliers’ proposals. You will also define the cost of the custom parts (metal and plastic) and promote Product mechanical parts cost optimization/reduction, acting on Material/Design/Production tools and processes, in strict cooperation with Product Manager, Engineering and Manufacturing Departments, from Product offer phase of the RfQ until post-SOP product optimization.

Your Responsibilities will be:

  • Assessment of cost down areas of products’ mechanical BOMs, assess technical feasibility, definition of actions, effort estimations and timing necessary to implement the changes.
  • Re-design advanced mechanical systems to achieve BOM cost reduction. Assure proper and efficient technical redesign, design implementation, and validation to achieve internal and customer approval for the change.
  • Support the Offer Team in defining the best material, technical and technological solution during RFI/RFQ and cooperate with mechanical engineer specialist to estimate mechanical (plastic, metal) components costs.
  • Participate in the new projects’ Core Team identifying cost down (design to cost) improvements in the mechanical components during design phase.
  • Verify the possibility to apply cost down or cost optimize lessons learnt from Benchmark, Supplier’s proposals, etc.
  • Cooperate with Engineering to drive design solution continuous improvement and transversal VA/VE solutions study and validation.
  • Support production localization costs trade off.
  • Propose and manage initiatives up to implementation related to raw material changes, Suppliers’ switch, technology changes, etc.
  • Cooperate with Supplier to identify and optimize geometry, superficial treatments, tools and production process cost.
  • Cooperate with Supplier to identify and to introduce recycled and new green materials.
  • Cooperate with Engineering Mechanical Teams to identify and to apply new technologies and/or new materials.
  • Assure the projects’ cross fertilization from developed actions and consolidate knowledge in form of lesson learned.

What Qualifications you will bring:

 

  • BSc in mechanical engineering.
  • Min 7 years work experience in mechanical design or production and industrialization of mechanical parts for automotive electro-mechanical assemblies, experience with car interior products and German OEMs is preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of plastic and/or metal raw materials (Aluminum, Magnesium) properties, displays incl. optical bonding, and their application in automotive electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Deep knowledge of mechanical product architecture, CAD, 2d and 3d Drawings.
  • Knowledge of thermal simulation and simulation tools.
  • Knowledge of OEM norms and requirements towards design verification and product validation
  • Knowledge of plastic and/or metal production tools and processes, post productions treatments processes like graining, painting and chrome plating processes.
  • Knowledge of molding equipment, mold maintenance and mold remaking processes or on metal stamping, diecasting, thixoforming processes.
  • Knowledge of material recycling and introduction on CO2 emissions from production processes.
  • Knowledge on related costs of the alternative technology.
  • Data management.
  • Jira, Appian SW.
  • Good financial understanding.
  • Willingness to travel to suppliers or production plants.
