About the Position:

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join the Electronic Components, Propulsion Solution team, reporting directly to the Electronic Units Engineering Manager.

This position is based at our office in Cluj-Napoca.

As the Mechanical Engineer at Marelli, you will be responsible to design, develop and industrialize mechanical components and assemblies for ICE, hybrid and electric vehicle power electronics (Electronic control units, e-axles, e-motors, inverters, on-board chargers, DC-DC converters, and battery management systems), ensuring performance, reliability, manufacturability, cost, and compliance with internal and industry standards.

Your Responsibilities will be:

  • Create and update 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, and Bill of Materials (BoM) for assigned parts and assemblies; apply GD&T and internal drawing standards.
  • Translate product requirements into mechanical solutions: define interfaces, tolerances, materials, and manufacturing processes in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Manage design changes for owned scope: evaluate impact, prepare engineering change documentation, and maintain design history files and project records.
  • Support mechanical verification: perform sizing calculations and tolerance analyses; coordinate with CAE/Simulation teams for FEA/thermal correlation when required.
  • Drive DFMA activities with industrialization and suppliers: assess feasibility, propose cost/performance improvements, and support sourcing/technical reviews.
  • Support prototype build, troubleshooting and design maturation; execute root cause analysis for issues found during testing or production trials and implement corrective actions.
  • Contribute to validation activities: review test plans, clarify acceptance criteria, and analyze test data to close design loops and improve robustness.
  • Ensure compliance with quality processes (documentation, reviews, traceability) and applicable HSE rules; actively participate in design reviews and lessons learned.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement: standardize templates, automate repetitive tasks where possible, and share knowledge within the team.

What Qualifications you will bring:

  • Bachelor / Master in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Mechanical design.
  • The candidate must have 2-5 years’ experience in mechanical design in the automotive area.
  • Solid mechanical engineering fundamentals: mechanics of materials, fatigue basics, thermal concepts, and material science.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools (e.g., CATIA, NX, Creo, SolidWorks) and basic PLM/PDM practices; ability to deliver production-ready drawings.
  • Working knowledge of DFMA, manufacturing methods (machining, casting, sheet metal, plastics), and tolerance stack-ups.
  • Understanding of verification & validation workflow, including documentation discipline and correlation of assumptions to test results.
  • Awareness of automotive product development constraints (cost, timing, quality) and environmental robustness needs (vibration, thermal cycling, ingress protection) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with CAE/FEA concepts (ANSYS/ABAQUS or similar) is an advantage to communicate effectively with simulation specialists.

Other skills that we would welcome:

  • Problem solving: structured root cause analysis (8D/A3) and ability to propose practical countermeasures.
  • Communication and collaboration: clear technical communication with cross-functional teams and suppliers.
  • Planning and ownership: estimate effort, prioritize tasks, and deliver assigned scope with moderate autonomy.
  • Documentation rigor: produce clear and reproducible technical documentation and design rationale.
  • Presentation skills to explain technical concepts and trade-offs to stakeholders.
  • Good written and spoken English.

What does this position offer you:

  • Fast-paced yet supportive and high-performing international team with an inspiring ambition to transform the future of mobility.
  • Support in onboarding and further training that will set you up with Marelli's speed.
  • A hybrid work model, helping you to achieve work-life balance-combining the best of both spending time working remotely, benefitting from focus time, and purposeful co-creation time in the office.
