About the Position:
We are looking for a Mechanical Simulation Engineer to join the Electronics team, reporting directly to the ELS Engineering - Display Product Gropup - Virtual Validation.
This position is based at our office in Cluj-Napoca.
As the Mechanical Simulation Engineer at Marelli, you will be responsible in the design, analysis, and validation of advanced automotive components, ensuring they meet the highest standards of performance and safety.
Your Responsibilities will be:
- Conduct and manage Finite Element Method (FEM) simulations using Altair HyperMesh/HyperView/HyperGraph and OptiStruct for implicit simulations, including structural analysis, stiffness evaluation, thermal shock assessment, vibration analysis, and fatigue testing.
- Perform explicit simulations with LS-Dyna, such as crash analysis, sled tests, head impact tests, and airbag deployment simulations.
- Able to perform bio-mechanics evaluations on dummies, considering Out Of Positions, AirBag deployments, Time to Fire and regulations FMVSS201/ECE-R21.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to guide the design process, providing insights and recommendations supported by simulation validation.
- Ensure compliance with EMEA and NAFTA specifications and standards, participating in face-to-face meetings with customers when required.
- Act as a thought leader, leveraging machine learning and AI applications to enhance simulation processes and engineering outcomes.
- Demonstrate autonomy while working collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
- Able to run correlation activities to generate digital twin models.
What Qualifications you will bring:
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. (valid and recognized in Europe or United States)
Bachelor’ degree not sufficient. - Fluency in English; additional proficiency in French is advantageous.
- Over 7 years of experience in the automotive industry, specifically in infotainment, displays, and clusters.
- Strong understanding of EMEA and NAFTA automotive specifications.
- Able to do DOE activities and create database to train AI base model.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with customers and team members.
- Basic knowledge of machine learning and AI applications in engineering contexts.
- Proven ability to work autonomously and drive projects to completion.
Other skills that we would welcome:
- Extensive knowledge on material used in automotive field, able to understand differences, suggesting solution and alternative, creating detailed material card with refence to Temperature depending on characteristics, Strain rates, GISSMO advanced failure model etc.
- Able to deal with elasto-plastic, brittle, hyper-elastic materials.
- Extensive knowledge on glue, and adhesive characteristic.
- Base knowledge about mold process and tolerance chain calculation.
- Able to solve physics problem using energy balance calculation.
