As a global yet fast-evolving company, we're looking for team members who want to grow and evolve with us.

About the Position:

We are seeking a Lead Software Engineer to serve as the senior-most technical authority and single point of accountability for all software engineering work executed out of our Mexico site. This is a technical leadership role, not a project management role.

Your Responsibilities will be:

Technical Leadership & Ownership

  • Serve as the responsible and accountable owner for all technical tasks, deliverables, and outcomes executed out of the site.
  • Personally lead the diagnosis and resolution of complex technical problems rather than delegating problem-solving.
  • Set technical direction for the team and make sound engineering judgment calls in real time, escalating only when a decision genuinely requires leadership input.
  • Review and validate the technical quality, accuracy, and completeness of work produced by the team before it is considered done.

Team Coordination & Guidance

  • Guide, monitor, and coordinate the daily work of software engineers, ensuring effort is focused on the right priorities.
  • Act as the first line of technical mentorship for the Mexico team — unblocking engineers, reviewing designs and code, and building technical capability within the site.
  • Maintain visibility into the status, risks, and blockers of all active work streams running through the Mexico site.

US–Mexico Interface

  • Participate in coordination calls with leadership and other stakeholders, representing the team's technical status and perspective.
  • Accurately understand and interpret requests, requirements, and priorities, and translate them into clear, actionable direction for the team.
  • Proactively communicate progress, risks, and technical trade-offs back to leadership so that decisions are made with full and current information.

Delivery Quality & Timeliness

  • Drive the team to complete assigned tasks on schedule, without sacrificing technical quality or accuracy.
  • Identify and correct quality gaps or misunderstandings early, before they propagate into downstream defects or missed commitments.
  • Support continuous improvement of engineering practices at the site (code quality, review discipline, defect prevention).

What Qualifications you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, including significant experience in embedded or automotive software systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead complex technical problem-solving from symptom to confirmed root cause, not just to a plausible hypothesis.
  • Proven experience informally or formally leading, mentoring, or technically directing other engineers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, sufficient to represent the Mexico team clearly and confidently in calls with US leadership and stakeholders. .
  • Comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy and accountability, with minimal day-to-day supervision from management.

Other skills that we would welcome:

  • Automotive instrument cluster (IPC) or similar embedded display/HMI software experience.
  • Experience with automotive SoCs/MCUs such as Renesas R-Car or Infineon Traveo, or comparable embedded silicon platforms.
  • Linux/Yocto board support package (BSP) development, including DRM/KMS display pipelines and systemd service architecture.
  • AUTOSAR, UDS/diagnostics, and functional safety (ASIL) development experience.
  • ASPICE process environments (Level 2 or 3).
  • CAN and related automotive middleware/communication stacks.
  • Familiarity with JIRA, Confluence, and standard embedded toolchains (e.g., GHS MULTI or equivalent compiler/IDE toolchains).

Expectations from you in this position:

The successful candidate will be a hands-on expert who can personally drive complex technical problem-solving, while also guiding, monitoring, and coordinating the Mexico-based engineering team on a day-to-day basis. They will represent the Mexico team in coordination calls with leadership, translate incoming requests from the leadership into clear technical direction, and ensure that all work executed in Mexico is completed on time, with quality, and with accuracy.

What does this position offer you:

  • Fast-paced yet supportive and high-performing international team with an inspiring ambition to transform the future of mobility.
  • Support in onboarding and further training that will set you up with Marelli's speed.
  • A hybrid work model, helping you to achieve work-life balance-combining the best of both spending time working remotely, benefitting from focus time, and purposeful co-creation time in the office.
  •  ......
