About the Position:
We are looking for a Technologist Engineer to join the ELS Engineering - Display Product Group - System Integration Department.
This position is based at our office in Corbetta.
As the Technologist Engineer at Marelli, you will oversee leading mechanical DFM activities towards suppliers and plant process engineers during co-design and detailed design phases assuring smooth supplier nomination and tooling kick-off activities.
You will be as well responsible for his assigned project to release, as integration to applicable standard tools/components supply specification, part design related specific technological requirements for externally developed manufacturing tools and processes (i.e. plastic injection Mold Book) as well as to approve jointly with plant process and Supplier Quality Engineers supplier’s technical proposal to fulfil them.
You will be also for his assigned project a technical support for supplier quality (buy parts) and for process engineering (make parts) external tools and processes approvals.
In addition to responsibilities linked to his assigned project, for specific technologies on which yu have deep knowledge and are appointed as R&D reference for, you will support actively Mechanical Lead Engineers and Technologist colleagues to perform technical feasibility and optimize mechanical concept/design accordingly.
Your Responsibilities will be:
- Support Mechanical Lead Engineer in RFI/RFQ and co-design activities assuring technological feasibility of mechanical concepts and architecture proposal.
- Support Mechanical Lead Engineer by proactively managing DFM activities personally (before supplier activation for DFM) or with suppliers (after nomination or activation for DFM).
- Support design phase by cooperating with Mechanical Lead Engineering in technological feasibility of special features or processes and subsequent product concept/design optimization
- Assure in cooperation with Mechanical Lead Engineer BOM cost optimized design solutions
- At DFM phase closure, provide to Mechanical Lead Engineer formal feasibility reports on mechanical 2D/3D models and on Mold Flow studies for injection molding parts
- Adopt, for all reports and technical presentations, standard released forms (where available)
- Assure, according to project needs, release of part design related specific technological requirements for externally developed manufacturing tools and processes (i.e. plastic injection Mold Book)
- Provide feedback on compliance of suppliers’ technical proposals with requirements in offer phase
- Support sourcing for evaluation of coherence of suppliers’ tools construction effort breakdown and cycle time estimation in suppliers offer phase
- Monitor project & deliverables status vs input needs for DFM, tooling construction and tooling & processes approval phases and timely communicate major deviations to Mechanical Lead Engineer
- Monitor tools construction and process trials & proactively communicate to Mechanical Lead Engineer schedule deviations and, upon request, activities advancement percentage & actual effort data
- Assure design solutions compatible with tooling & equipment in line with project initiative assumptions and cost estimations
- Actively participate to DFMEA / PFMEA / Design Review sessions
- Upon Mechanical Lead Engineer specific request, attends technical presentation events at Customer facility or support Customer visits at supplier sites.
- Support, upon Mechanical Lead Engineer request, root cause analysis and countermeasure definition in case of design validation or process validation failures
What Qualifications you will bring:
- Knowledge of Injection/compression molding, complex over molding, plastic welding, materials physical properties and treatments, optical bonding technologies,
- Good knowledge of Injection Mold design, constructive materials and process parameters,
- Design For Manufacturing concepts deep knowledge
- Knowledge of tolerance concepts & 2D drawings notational systems (GD&T - ASME)
- Familiarity with international engineering standards (ISO, UNI, ASTM, IATF16949, VDI…)
- Mechanical CAD base knowledge (CATIA V5 preferred)
- Open mind and team building natural skills
- Precision and methodic approach
- Capability to work with international distributed teams
Other skills that we would welcome:
- Simulation using MOLD FLOW and concepts deep knowledge.
- Any deep experience in specific process is a nice to have (painting, metal cutting & forming, plastic and metal welding, gluing, optical bonding, liquid or solid thermal pad application, sintering, screwing, serigraphy, clinching, plasma treatments, EDM, flaming, surface finishing or plating…)
- Gauge concept and design
- Dimensional metrology concepts and measurement technologies knowledge
- FMEA methodologies knowledge
- 6 sigma and SPC methodologies knowledge
