System Architecture and HW Specialist

About the Position:

We are looking for a System Architecture and HW Specialist to join the Value Competitiveness, Electronics team, reporting directly to the Electronic Cost Engineering.
 

This position is based at our office in Cluj-Napoca.
 

As the System Architecture and HW Specialist at Marelli, you will be responsible for the technical evaluation and cost optimization of product architectures, as well as for the implementation of design changes and hardware Bill of Material optimization. All activities must be in line with Marelli reference platforms and customer specifications.

Your Responsibilities will be:

• Support Value Competitiveness teams to promote cost reduction initiatives.
• Collaborate with the development team to simplify and make products and platforms more competitive (i.e., HW components selection and HW architecture definition).
• Support the Team in assessing the possible impacts of each change and estimating the efforts, the costs and the timing associated with implementing each initiative.
• Interact with Vendors to identify and optimize more cost-effective alternative solutions and components. Meet and monitor Suppliers’ Road maps with particular reference to costs.
• Support and participate to Cost Optimization workshops to assess, propose and estimate cost down proposals.
• Assure the projects’ cross fertilization from developed actions and consolidate knowledge in form of lesson learned.
• Manage and release related product and project documentation.
• Tracking initiatives on the dedicated Tool.

What Qualifications you will bring:

• Master's degree, or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.

• English fluent, additional language is preferred.

• Previous work experience (minimum 12-15 years) in Electronics HW concepts and design for automotive electro-mechanical assemblies.

• Knowledge of automotive components: Microprocessors, PMICs, Memories, Connectivity SoCs / ICs, A/V Controllers, CAN Transceivers, LED Drivers, etc. 

• Knowledge of automotive electronic device architectures (e.g., Displays, Instrument Clusters, Telematic Modules, Radios, Body Computers, etc. 
• Experience with Board Bring-up, automotive preferred.

Expectations from you in this position:

• Critically review the electrical and electronic architecture of automotive products—including display systems, clusters, head units, body computers, zone control units, Teleamatic box and high-performance computers—proposing effective and cost-competitive solutions without compromising functionality or performance.
• Demonstrate deep hands-on experience with key components such as microcontrollers, memory devices, power supply, Led driver, Video streaming protocols, display architectures, Ethernet and WiFi/BT connectivity functions. Mandatory is proven expertise in Display/ cluster body computer systems optimization.
• Maintain strong relationships and technical alignment with leading components suppliers of electronic components and integrated circuits, consulting technical references and market trends to propose alternative components and drive design-to-cost initiatives.
• Evaluate architectural alternatives, such as integrated circuits versus discrete architectures; assess optimal power supply solutions, i.g descrete vs integrated circuit, and memory sizing solutions; analyze make-vs-buy strategies; considering the impacts in the manufacturing process and timing  to achieve cost savings.
• Analyze the architectural impacts of component substitutions or technology evolution, identifying and recommending necessary countermeasures. This includes verifying how major components interact, their dependencies and interfaces, checking critical data paths and command flows, and ensuring compatibility with board support packages provided by SoC manufacturers.
• Release updated product architectures when required, clearly identifying and documenting impacts on hardware and low-level software.
• Coordinate with the Program Manager to ensure alignment of the technical team during the cost reduction phase, collaborating closely with Engineering, Purchasing, Commodity, and Manufacturing departments to ensure efficient implementation of changes.
• The candidate should be able to consult and thoroughly understand existing system architectures, evaluate the effects and feasibility of proposed changes, and actively contribute to cross-functional teams within Marelli to deliver cost-effective, technically robust automotive electronics solutions.
