About the Position:
We are looking for a Virtual Simulation Engineer to join the Electonics team, reporting directly to the Engineering Display and Virtual Validation Area Leader.
This position is based at our office in Cluj-Napoca.
As the Virtual Simulation Engineer at Marelli, you will be responsible to drive the delivery of high-quality virtual simulation and structural analysis activities in alignment with Marelli Electronics' engineering standards and best practices, to contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering quality metrics, to promote First Time Right performance, and to provide technical expertise and leadership to support robust product development and validation processes.
Your Responsibilities will be:

Perform virtual simulation and validation activities with full operational autonomy using Altair OptiStruct, HyperMesh, and LS-DYNA.

Drive continuous improvement of simulation quality and First Time Right (FTR) performance

Define, configure, and validate Occupant Protection (OOP) models, including Airbag deployment and Time to Fire (TTF) parameters.

Select, evaluate, and configure appropriate material models for automotive applications, including elasto-plastic, brittle, hyper-elastic, glue, and adhesive materials.

Develop and maintain advanced material cards incorporating temperature-dependent properties, strain-rate effects, and GISSMO failure models.
- Consistent application of energy balance calculations to validate physical problem-solving, complemented by a solid foundational application of mold processes and tolerance chain calculations.
- Successful completion of a mandatory internal technical assessment (Peer Review conducted by the Line Manager or a designated Subject Matter Expert) evaluating autonomous tool usage.

Ensure full compliance with global engineering specifications and customer requirements across EMEA, NAFTA, LATAM, and APAC regions.

Lead technical discussions and customer meetings, effectively presenting and defending simulation methodologies, assumptions, and results whne required.
What Qualifications you will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering - Mechanical, Electronics, Automation, Computer Science, Aerospace, or related fields
- Between 5 and 8 years of relevant experience in numerical simulation and engineering design.
- Ability to validate and correlate simulations with experimental and physical test data.
- Strong knowledge of mathematical modeling, programming (Python, Matlab), and automation in simulation processes.
- Familiarity with Machine Learning/AI applications for optimizing engineering processes.
- Ability to critically interpret results, identify and solve complex technical problems.
- Autonomy in initiating and managing simulation projects, adhering to internal standards and deadlines.
- Excellent technical communication skills and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams (design, testing, production).
- Proactive mindset, focused on innovation and continuous improvement.
- Advanced expertise in numerical simulation: CAE/FEA, CFD, thermal and structural modeling, multiphysics analysis.
- Postgraduate studies (Master’s, PhD) in relevant areas (Numerical Simulation, Modeling, Data Science, Machine Learning, Applied Physics) are considered an advantage.
- Accredited courses or relevant certifications (CAE/FEA, Thermal Simulation, CFD, Mathematical Modeling, Python/Matlab, Machine Learning) are preferred..
