About the Position:
We are looking for a Advanced Sustainability Specialist to join the Legal & Compliance team, reporting directly to the Head of Sustainability.
This position is based at our office in Gurugram/Bengaluru, India.
The Advanced Sustainability Specialist is the single source-of-truth owner for ESG data and the assurance engine behind Marelli’s sustainability reporting and decarbonization dashboards and external disclosures. The role leads audit readiness, hypercare of data in high-risk locations, internal controls, Scope 3 calculation integrity (incl. PCF alignment), dashboarding, external benchmarking, quarterly reviews, data analysis, Power BI, and the automation of ESG data demands, including liaison with external data collection/transmission platforms in use (e.g.Workiva and Catena-X).
Your Responsibilities will be:
- Frameworks & Reporting: Hands-on with ESRS/CSRD, GRI, CDP, EcoVadis; understanding of EU Taxonomy eligibility/alignment, DNSH and minimum social safeguards.
- Digital & data skills: solid understanding of structured data, data quality principles, and basic data architecture, with the ability to translate sustainability requirements into digital and technical needs.
- Systems & Tools: Practical experience with Workiva (ESG Program, Factbook, workflows) and Power BI (data modeling/DAX/Row-level security). Familiarity with integrating MArc, Salesforce, SAP SuccessFactors, OneStream HR or similar sources into disclosure platforms. Familiarity with IT solutions for internal data management and integration of internal/external data systems via API.
- AI & LLM awareness: practical understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI tools, including appropriate use in data processing, automation support and documentation.
- Technical ESG: Strong literacy on Scope 3 (esp. 3.1/3.4/3.11), GHG Protocol and Product Carbon Footprint calculation/governance; able to test consistency between project PCFs and consolidated inventories supporting claims. Ability to produce internal procedures and process mapping and to train users.
What Qualifications you will bring:
- Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science,Engineering, Finance/Accounting or related (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum Experience: 6–10+ years in controllership/audit/data assurance or ESG data programs within complex manufacturing; proven interface with external assurers and owners of sustainability reporting cycles.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and stakeholders effectively.
- Strong analytical skills, with a keen eye for both qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners.
- Proficiency in document management and reporting tools.
Other skills that we would welcome:
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management; able to run structured presentations and reviews and challenge data owners; bias to automation and process discipline.
- Exposure to digital tagging and interoperability across frameworks in Workiva.
- Prior hypercare deployments/internal controls (plants/countries) or supplier-data onboarding; understanding of Catena-X data spaces and security.
- Ability to read, understand and write basic code (e.g., Python, SQL or similar) to support data analysis, validation and automation activities.
- Prior experience with ISO14001/ISO45001/SA8000 audits at manufacturing locations.
Expectations from you in this position:
- Deliver clean audits and controls: Lead the successful development and enforcement of ESG controls, evidence trails and assurance cycles with zero major findings.
- Stabilize and scale data quality: Execute hypercare where needed, standardize templates, and institutionalize a monthly Marelli Sustainability Dashboard and quarterly QBR to drive continuous improvement.
- Protect calculation integrity: Validate Scope 3 math and PCF alignment so customer/CSRD claims are technically defensible and repeatable.
- Accelerate automation: Increase automation of recurring ESG data demands and external questionnaires reducing cycle time and manual risk.
- Enable EU Taxonomy & CSRD delivery: Operate the data structures and workflows required to produce audit-ready EU Taxonomy tables and ESRS packages.
