About the Position:
We are looking for an Optics Display Design Specialist
This position is based at our office in Gurugram.
Your Responsibilities will be:
Responsible for design, development, validation, and production support of LCD/TFT displays used in automotive instrument clusters, ensuring compliance with optical performance, reliability, automotive standards, and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Display Design & Specification
Define LCD / TFT display specifications including:Size, resolution, pixel size
Brightness (cd/m²), contrast ratio,Viewing angle (Horizontal/Vertical),Color gamut, gamma, response time.
Select suitable display technology: TN / VA / TFT and other latest industry technologies
Positive mode–Monochrome LCD, Negative mode –Monochrome & Color LCD,Color segment with Gradient effect in LCD, Transmissive / Transflective
Define backlight architecture (LED type, light guide, diffuser, brightness uniformity)
Select suitable design architecture (Design + Material + Process) which will meets the Environmental & Reliability Test conditions
2. Optical Performance Engineering
Evaluate and validate the optical performance through virtual simulation / physical measurements: Brightness uniformity, Ghost image / color patches / mura
Reflection, glare, and readability under sunlight, Display readability under Day mode & Night mode conditions
Ensure compliance with:
OEM optical requirements
Day / Night mode performance
Work closely with suppliers
3. Electrical & Interface Integration
Support interface definition and validation: RGB, LVDS, MIPI-DSI
Coordinate with HW teams for: Power sequencing, Backlight driver selection
EMI / EMC robustness, Validate display timing parameters and signal integrity.
4. Mechanical & Industrial Design Interface
Coordinate with mechanical team for:
Display mounting
Stack-up tolerance
Support lens, mask, and light-shield design to avoid:
Light leakage
Uneven illumination
5. Environmental & Reliability Validation
Plan and execute display-related tests: Thermal cycle / thermalshock,High temperature & humidity, Vibration with temperature exposure, EMI / EMC, ESD, Analyze failures such as:
Polarizer cracking/ degradation, LCD mura growth, Backlight degradation
6. Supplier & Manufacturing Support
Technical interface with display suppliers for: DFM / DFA, Process capability (Cp/Cpk)
Support pilot build and mass production: Incoming quality issues, End-of-line optical defects,Drive cost, yield, and quality improvements.
7. Documentation & Customer Interaction
Prepare and review:
Display specification documents
Optical performance reports
test plans & validation reports
Support customer audits, design reviews, and issue closure.
Provide technical justification for design changes or deviations.
Required Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of:
LCD / TFT physics and construction
Backlight systems and optics
Hands-on experience with:
Experience in Optical simulation tools
Optical measurement tools (luminance meter, colouranalyser)
Environmental test chambers
Understanding of automotive standards:
ISO 16750
OEM-specific cluster requirements
Experience in:
Supplier technical management
Root cause analysis & corrective actions
Conduct detailed root cause analysis for Optical performance issues, field failures, validation issues and suggest improvements in design, material, or process.
Soft Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
Clear technical communication with suppliers and customers
Cross-functional collaboration mindset
Ability to work in high-reliability automotive programs
Preferred / Added Advantage
Experience with negative-type automotive LCDs
Experience with fully digital clusters
What Qualifications you will bring:
Education
B. E/ B. Tech/ M. E/ MTech–Physics,Optics Mechatronics, or related discipline
