About the Position:

We are looking for a Manufacturing Planning Engineer, Business Processes – MMS to join the Shelbyville Plant team, reporting directly to the Plant Manager.
 

This position is based at our office in Shelbyville, in the USA
 

The Manufacturing Planning Engineer, Business Processes – MMS plays a central role in maximizing production efficiency, improving resource utilization, and strengthening manufacturing competitiveness within the plant. This role combines manufacturing planning, productivity analysis, standard time management, continuous improvement, and MMS deployment.

 

You will be responsible for developing, promoting, and maintaining MMS knowledge and culture in the plant, consistent with Corporate and Business MMS targets. You will support plant performance through efficiency analysis, productivity improvement planning, KPI tracking, cost and headcount planning, and strategic execution.

 

This position requires a strong blend of analytical capability, manufacturing expertise, financial awareness, project leadership, and change management skills to drive measurable improvements in plant performance.

Your Responsibilities will be:

  • Analyze productivity performance, labor losses, cycle times, equipment utilization, line efficiency, and production gaps to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Manage standard time processes, including setting, maintenance, review, and revision, to support manpower planning, costing, and productivity targets.
  • Calculate and optimize manpower, equipment needs, and production line load based on customer demand, production schedules, and plant targets.
  • Lead production competitiveness KPI tracking, equipment utilization reviews, and improvement activities to drive manufacturing performance.
  • Develop, promote, and maintain Marelli Manufacturing System (MMS) knowledge, standards, tools, and culture within the plant.
  • Monitor MMS progress, support internal diagnoses, ensure proper application of standards, and follow up on action plans.
  • Lead and support continuous improvement, Kaizen, cost reduction, and productivity improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations.
  • Partner with the Plant Manager and Department Leaders to define strategies, recovery plans, and actions to achieve operational and economic targets.
  • Support manufacturing site cost, headcount, and resource budgeting, while monitoring actual performance versus planned assumptions.
  • Develop and execute mid-term manufacturing competitiveness plans aligned with plant and organizational objectives.
  • Provide timely reporting and feedback to Central Manufacturing to support decision-making and performance tracking.
  • Support change management, training, employee involvement, benchmarking, and best-practice sharing across plant teams.

What Qualifications you will bring:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Management, Supply Chain, Business Processes, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing, production planning, industrial engineering, manufacturing methods, supply chain, or operations improvement. Experience leading productivity improvement, cost reduction, operational excellence, lean manufacturing, or continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Skills:
        - Proficiency in planning and ERP systems (e.g., IFS)
        - Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
        - Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with expertise in data-driven decision-making.
        - Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
        - Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge:
        - Familiarity with time method measurement techniques.
        - Deep understanding of work analysis, including strong experience in cycle times analysis, cycle times breakdown, and labor losses analysis.
        - Demonstrated ability to manage projects focused on productivity improvement.
        - Comprehensive knowledge of production processes, quality standards, inventory principles, lean manufacturing concepts, and continuous improvement methodologies.

  • Drive plant efficiency through ongoing performance analysis and targeted productivity improvement planning.
  • Lead initiatives that enhance production competitiveness and ensure continuous improvement in manufacturing performance.
  • Execute centrally defined strategies and tactics while aligning plant operations with Marelli’s organizational objectives.
  • Provide timely, accurate information and feedback to Central Manufacturing.
  • Capture production results, analyze outcomes, and define actionable steps to close performance gaps.
  • Plan and realize cost competitiveness through effective resource management and operational efficiency.
  • Advance mid-term manufacturing site competitiveness through sustainable improvement initiatives.
  • Promote MMS culture, standards, and tools throughout the plant.
  • Support team development, change management, and continuous improvement capability building.
