About the Position:
The Pre‑Production Shop Manager is responsible for leading all operations within the pre‑production area, ensuring the successful launch of new products and processes before transferring them to mass production. This role oversees prototype builds, process validation, early‑phase industrialization, and cross‑functional coordination to meet quality, timing, and cost targets aligned with Marelli standards and customer requirements.
Your Responsibilities will be:
Operational Leadership
- Lead day‑to‑day operations in the pre‑production shop, ensuring safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance.
- Plan and coordinate prototype builds, engineering samples, and pilot runs.
- Ensure adherence to industrialization plans, including timing, resource allocation, and technical readiness.
Process Industrialization & Launch
- Manage the introduction of new products and processes, ensuring alignment with Marelli’s APQP and customer-specific requirements.
- Oversee process validation activities, capability studies, and equipment readiness.
- Define and optimize pre‑production workflows, ensuring smooth transition to mass production.
- Identify process risks and drive mitigation plans through PFMEA, control plans, and standard work documentation.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Engineering, Quality, Program Management, Production, Maintenance, and Supply Chain teams to ensure launch success.
- Support customer and internal audits related to new product introduction.
- Coordinate with the tool shop, test lab, and external suppliers when needed.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure compliance with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and customer quality standards.
- Lead root cause analysis for pre‑production issues and implement permanent corrective actions.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, efficiency, repeatability, and cost reduction.
- Promote best practices in Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and problem‑solving methodologies.
People Management
- Lead, coach, and develop the pre‑production team, including technicians and process specialists.
- Ensure proper training, skill development, and performance management.
- Foster a culture of accountability, technical excellence, and teamwork.
What Qualifications you will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in automotive manufacturing, preferably in pre‑production, industrialization, or process engineering roles.
- Strong understanding of automotive quality systems (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC).
- Proven experience managing teams and leading cross‑functional projects.
- Solid knowledge of production processes, assembly systems, and manufacturing equipment.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills (8D, Ishikawa, 5 Whys).
- Excellent communication skills in English; additional languages are a plus.
